Questions & Answers:

How do I determine what age group my child should swim in?

Mini-Dolphins                                            All swimmers 4 & under; 5 & 6 year old beginner swimmers

6 & Under (B) * 5 & 6 year olds (by June 15th)  who can swim the length of the pool unassisted

6 & Under (A) * 5 & 6 year olds (by June 15th) who know all of their strokes and are able to practice for longer lengths of time

7/8's All swimmers who are 7 & 8 years old by June 15th.

9/10's All swimmers who are 9 & 10 years old by June 15th.

11/12's All swimmers who are 11 & 12 years old by June 15th.

13/14's All swimmers who are 13 & 14 years old by June 15th.

15-18's 15-18's - All swimmers who are 15 years of age up to 18 years of age by June 15th

For the 6 & Unders: If you are not sure of your child's swimming ability, it is best to start them at a lower level and the coaches will determine where they should be within a few weeks of practice. The coaches may move swimmers up at anytime, as their skills increase.

Older swimmers who are beginners may practice with the younger swimmers at first. The coaches will make this determination.

All 6 & unders will start practice with the Mini-Dolphins until the coaches can assess them. If you think your child should start with the 6 & Under (A) Group, please contact the coaches so they can advise you if your swimmer should or should not start with the 6 & Under (A) Group.

Mini-Dolphins: If you are unsure if your child should be a Mini-Dolphin or a 6 & Under, please contact us at vddstmail@gmail.com to discuss this with us and we can help you make the right determination. Many 5 & 6 year olds who are beginners may be fine staying in the mini-program all year, but most prefer to move up as soon as they are able and attend away meets & invitationals. Throughout the season we will have swimming assessments to measure your child(ren)'s progress.

Our coaches will communicate when your swimmer is ready to move up & we greatly encourage all swimmers to swim in meets & invitationals, once they are ready.
